Hair extensions have come a long way the past few decades. There was a time when wearing extensions was a faux pas, and celebrities would lie straight face when asked if they wore them. But then…they went mainstream and part of the reason is that today there are so many different ways to wear them discreetly.
While glues, tapes and bonds have been around for a while, hand-tied extensions are a relatively new technique that for the first time delivers a method that offers damage free add-on hair solutions for thin or fragile hair. They add length and fullness and dude to their unique design are some of the flattest, most light wefts you can wear.
What Are Hand-Tied Extensions and How Are They Applied?
Our Perfect Locks Hand-Tied Wefts are made with the finest virgin and Remy human hair available. They are thin, comfortable, and lay flat against your scalp for a more seamless installation. They are perfect for a variety of hand tied sew-in or beaded row applications.
Your stylist starts by sectioning your hair and applying beads in a row to your natural hair and securing them. This row serves as the foundation to attach the weft like a curtain in a row and because the beads are so small attached to so many points it virtually eliminates the kind of tension and tugging that can lead to damage to your hair or hair follicles. If you're interested in something that's pre-beaded, you could take our beaded weft rows a spin.
What’s the difference between Hand-Tied and Machine Wefts?
Hand-Tied Wefts
- Tied by a person for a tiger, custom weave
- Can’t be cut to make thinner strips
- Are ideal for thin/fine hair
- Are thinner, smaller and flatter against the scalp
Machine Wefts
- Are thicker for people with thicker hair
- Can be custom cut
- More hair per weft
- Are ideal for medium to thick hair
What’s the difference between Hand-Tied Wefts and Tape-Ins
There’s a big difference and its the technique and wearability that defines them. Tape-ins are applied to your natural hair by essentially sandwiching around sections of hair. Hand-Tied Wefts are attached off a connected bead placed on small sections of your natural hair. While both look good, the decision between the two really comes down to wearability commitment. If you like to change your look often, tape-ins are a great choice. If you are looking for at least 4 to 8 months or longer rocking a look then Hand-Tied Wefts are for you. Tape-ins will go in fairly quickly in about 90 minutes, whereas Hand-Tied Wefts can take between two to two and a half hours to be fully integrated.
How long do the Hand-Tied Wefts last?
Every 4 to 6 weeks you’ll need to check in with your stylist to have them moved up as you natural hair grows out. With proper care and maintenance, this overall product will last you at least 1 to 2 years with proper care. We have customers that have been using the same hair extensions upwards of 4 to 5 years. We recommend only using the highest quality hair extension products for maintenance.
Can they be custom colored by my stylist?
Yes they can! We only recommend dying the virgin #1B color, they are completely natural and will take color easily from to 2 to 3 shades. If you need to go lighter then bleaching may be involved, in which case we would recommend you consult a professional. We do not recommend coloring hair that's already been colored. When doing any color service to the hair, perform a test strand first to see how the color processes with your formula being used. Once you confirm the results and processing time are correct than you can carry on with the full application of color desired. Keep in mind that the lighter you go it may slightly loosen the hair's natural curl pattern. This is something you can check for after completing your strand test as well.
Will the Hand-Tied Wefts shed?
Shedding can occur if the weft is cut and not sealed. If you or your stylist need to cut the track we highly recommend using a hair extension or nail glue to seal the track. This will help prevent shedding.
What’s the best way to take care of my Hand-Tied Wefts?
We recommend hair care products that don't contain any sulfates, parabens, or ammonia. High quality hair care products made for hair extensions are necessary to keep the hair moisturized and hydrated. Our Inspire line of products is a perfect solution.
