Machine weft hair extensions can be suitable for many types of hair, but it depends on the individual's hair texture and density, as well as the type and quality of the extensions being used. At Perfect Locks, we only use the finest virgin hair for our Natural Black #1b, and Remy hair for our colored machine wefts. Some types of hair may not be able to support the weight of extensions, while others may be too fine to blend well with the extensions. Additionally, if someone's hair is already damaged, or if they are prone to hair breakage, extensions may not be suitable. It's best to consult with a professional stylist to determine if machine weft hair extensions are suitable for an individual's hair type and to ensure proper application and maintenance of the extensions.
Machine wefts and Hand-tied wefts are two methods used to attach hair extensions to a person's natural hair.
Machine wefts are created using a machine to sew the hair onto a strip of fabric, which is then attached to a person's natural hair using methods such as sewing or bonding. These wefts are generally more durable and can withstand heat styling and other forms of manipulation. They are also more budget-friendly than hand-tied wefts.
On the other hand, hand-tied wefts are crafted by hand, where individual strands of hair are tied onto a strip of fabric. This method creates a more natural look, hand-tied wefts are less bulky than machine wefts and can be more comfortable to wear. However, they come at a higher cost and are less durable than machine wefts.
While machine wefts are more widely available and commonly used, hand-tied wefts are often considered of higher quality and are preferred by many stylists for their natural look and added comfort.

Pay close attention to the cuticles. The cuticles should all be aligned in the same direction to ensure minimal tangling and matting. To test the cuticle yourself, run your fingers from the top of the strand (closest to the weft) to the bottom (tip) of the strand. Good quality human hair will have the cuticles all running in the same direction, it should feel smooth as you run your fingers down the strand.
Examine the weft for uniformity in color, texture, and thickness. If the hair appears mismatched, it may not be genuine human hair.
Gently run your fingers through the hair and take note of the texture. Quality human hair should feel soft and silky to the touch, while synthetic hair will have a stiff and coarse texture.
Conducting a burn test can also help determine the authenticity of the hair. Carefully burn a small strand and observe the reaction. Human hair will burn and turn to ash, while synthetic hair will melt and give off a plastic smell.
And lastly, trust in a reputable brand. We recommend looking into well-known brands, like Perfect Locks, that have a reputation to uphold and use quality hair. Perfect Locks has been in the business since 2008 and our first product release was the machine wefts!
Your stylist will braid your natural hair in small cornrows, typically from the nape of the neck to the crown of the head, making sure the braids are neat and tight.
The stylist will measure and cut the weft to the appropriate length, and then section the client's hair.
The stylist will then place the weft on top of the sectioned hair, near the roots and sew it in using thread and needle.
Additional wefts can be added for desired thickness, and then the stylist will blend the extensions with the natural hair and style the hair.
The lifespan of machine wefts depends on several factors, including the quality of the hair, how well they are maintained, and how often they are worn. In general, good quality human hair wefts can last up to 6 months or more with proper care and maintenance. They can also be reusable multiple times, we have some Perfect Locks customers using their wefts for 5+ years!
To ensure that your machine wefts last as long as possible, it's important to take good care of them. This includes regularly washing and conditioning the hair, avoiding styling with too much heat, and brushing the hair gently. It's also important to avoid sleeping on wet hair, and tying it up tightly, as this can cause damage to the hair and shorten the lifespan of the wefts.
It is also recommended to have regular maintenance checkups with your stylist, around every 6-8 weeks, to ensure that the wefts are still secure, and any shedding or tangling is being taken care of.
Keep in mind that even with proper care and maintenance, hair extensions will eventually need to be removed or replaced. The actual time it will last may vary depending on how well it was maintained, how often it was worn, and your own hair growth and shedding.
